Bel Air, Maryland—A new teen resale store will be opened in Bel Air on Thursday at 5 Bel Air South Parkway in the Festival Shopping Center. Owned by Harford County residents Patrick and Melissa Davis, the store, Uptown Cheapskate, is a hip and trendy fashion exchange that pays shoppers cash for their clothes, shoes and other apparel items and resells them at prices up to 70 percent off regular retail.
The couple made the decision to open an Uptown Cheapskate franchise after Patrick Davis worked as a bartender at Amicci’s, a popular Little Italy eatery and also earned a degree in Small Business Entrepreneurship from Frostburg State University. Melissa Davis, who met Patrick Davis in college, currently teaches second grade at a local elementary school. She plans to balance between teaching and her fashion savvy alter-ego as an Uptown Cheapskate owner.
Both said they have wanted to open their own business for a long time and are passionate about both the fashion industry and bringing affordable fashions to Bel Air. “This is a recession-proof business and we’re excited to bring the concept into our community,” Patrick Davis said. “People love to save money on clothes in a good economy and even more so in a bad one.”
“We’ll pay you cash on the spot for what we buy, or pay 25 percent more if you take your payment in store credit. For several weeks we will only be buying products to fill our store up for a Grand Opening in November.” Patrick Davis said. “Our buying hours are 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. You don’t need an appointment, just bring in your clothes and we’ll do the rest.”
The new fashion exchange focuses on buying current styles that appeal to a wide range of teens and young adults.
Uptown Cheapskate typically carries such brand names as Urban Outfitters, BCBG, Bebe, MEK, Anthropology, Miss Me, and True Religion.
“When you look good, you feel good, and nice clothes play a big role,” Melissa Davis explains. “Uptown Cheapskate provides a place for our trendy customers to find the styles they love at an affordable price.”
In addition to carrying hundreds of recycled products, the new Uptown Cheapskate store will also offer several new products including jewelry and assorted clothing items.
