(Newswire.net –February 2, 2013) La Canada, CA — On January 20, 2013 more than 12,000 of eager participants, put on their sneakers, sun glasses and suntan oil to hit the historic streets of Anaheim, California to gain their own set of Tinker Bell Wings.  All these eager Tinker Bell wannabes were part of the annual Disneyland® Tinker Bell Half Marathon Fundraising Weekend.

Being part of these kinds of events is exciting but being physically prepared is something else altogether. Running a marathon or even a half of a marathon is a desire many have but few achieve.  This is not something you wake up the morning of the even and think you are going to go do it, it actually takes training.

One local hair salon business owner, Betty Bollier of De la Cruz Salon in La Canada, CA was one of the hundreds that trained for months to participate.  When interviewed after the race she had this to say

“I am so happy I got the proper training, it was amazing, hard and fun all at the same time.  I have always wanted to run a half marathon and now I have.  My body doesn’t really like the pain so much but I loved the challenge!  However, I know that without the right training, I would be in far worse shape.  It’s not as easy as some make it look.“

Betty was one among the many that prepared and trained with the local Team In Training Group.  TNT is an organization dedicated to training runners who participate in fundraising events.  They are the world’s largest endurance sports training program, which prepares individuals of all athletic abilities to run or walk a 26.2-mile marathon or a 13.1-mile half marathon.

TNT’s dedication has a purpose and that is to help in the fight against cancer. Their dedication in training these runners goes hand in hand with their dedication in assisting those individuals  to raise valuable funds to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS’s) mission.

LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. Their mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Betty, as a cancer survivor herself, is dedicated to the cause and is proud to have raised over $3,000 alone.  When asked if she would participate in the June 2, 2013 marathon in San Diego, CA  she said she didn’t have any immediate plans but one never knows where she will go now that she has Tinker Bell Wings.

Please feel free to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by going to their website and donating or jump on board and participate in the to the cause and become a participant in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in Washington D.C. on April 28th or the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Diego, CA on June 2nd.  You may not get fairy wings, but you will find it rewarding none the less.
