New Market BBQ Wins Round 1 of Alabama BBQ Competition

Thousands of loyal BBQ fans throughout the state turned out to participate in the first ever Alabama Tourism BBQ Bracket.  It has been a hot battle with lots of opinions being shared by thousands of folks across the state on the Year of Alabama Food’s Facebook page where the competition is being held. The BBQ Bracket coincides with the NCAA’s March Madness basketball tournament and is in conjunction with The Year of Alabama Food. Anyone with a Facebook Profile can participate, so be sure to vote.

New Market BBQ, which was among 32 Alabama barbecue establishments at the onset of the competition, was originally selected by Facebook and Twitter users in a yearlong campaign by The Year of Alabama Food.  New Market BBQ now proudly represents the NE Alabama BBQ Voters heading into Sweet 16 Round 2.  They are in a head to head battle with one of the state’s most popular BBQ establishments, so New Market BBQ has to pull out all the stops to make a great showing in Round 2.

“It’s going to be a tough round,” said Libby Webb, Co-Owner of New Market BBQ. “We are honored to be recognized amongst so many great BBQ Joints in the state of Alabama. We go to work every weekend in our small mom and pop establishment aiming to please every person that walks in our door.  We aren’t big in size, but we have big hearts to serve our customers great food, so to have hundreds of people standing up and voting for us is very humbling. We are grateful for everyone’s support to get us to this point, so let’s see what we can do together in Round 2.”

Sweet 16 Round 2 matchups will last only for 48 hours for a total of 4 days. The restaurants with the most votes will progress to the Elite Eight and then the Final Four. Voting for the restaurants in the Final Four will take place from Apr. 1 through Apr. 5.

The winning restaurant will be named “The Year of Alabama Food Ultimate Barbecue Champion” on Monday, Apr. 8 — the same day as the NCAA’s Men’s Division I Basketball Championship.
