“The Donkey…The Palm Branches…The Procession”

I went to church this morning to PCLG, www.pclg.org and I was amazed at the energy on this day, Palm Sunday. I’ve been to many of the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos, Palm Sunday services over the last twenty three years. But today there was a special vibration in the air that was electrifying, almost magnetic! Sure we had the little donkey with his handler, and this year the little donkey’s name was Peter. And although he was very patient with all the kids petting him and being up close, he was even okay with the photos of all the older folks, they themselves reserved while they leaned into his head shot for the cameras. At times he was a little like a typical Jack-Ass, unsettled and moving around, demanding a little respect in his discomfort with this crowd of strangers! But overall it was wonderful to see all the smiling faces and even little Peter the donkey had a grin.

After the gathering and all the photos, the crowd started to process into the magnificent PCLG sanctuary for worship. The choir led the group of over a hundred in a lovely hymn singing of Christ’s triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem as they all processed from the Westminster wing courtyard down the path along the parking lot to the main walkway to the sanctuary. Everyone was waiving their palm branches and singing as they walked together to worship. It was true joy. Similar to the joy they must have felt on that day over two thousand years ago as Christ entered the city!

In May of 2012, we called a new Pastor to PCLG, Pastor Dave Watermulder. He has been energetic and captivating to our congregation. He preaches from the gospel with a style that seems to resonate with folks of all ages and this is attracting more and more visitors each week. We just received forty five new members. If there is a church in the Bay Area on the way, it’s the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos. There will be a Maundy Thursday service at 7:45 pm this Thursday the 28th, where there will be washing of the feet of those that attend. This should be an exceptional worship service! Also, there will be a Good Friday prayer vigil in the afternoon on Friday the 29th. Then, a sunrise service at 6:45 am in the redwood grove and the traditional Easter morning worship service in the sanctuary at 10:00 am. This is going to be a year of great memories of Holy Week at PCLG.

Of all the memorable Palm Sunday’s!

Gratefully in His grip,

Edward Fotion
