(Newswire — March 30, 2013) Dallas, TX — Women in Dallas have a new choice in fitness classes, Dallas pole dance classes. We interviewed Kimberly Bass of Sweat and Stilettos and these classes are not what you may think. Pole dance classes for many conjure up all sorts of preconceived ideas about what these classes are actually about. But rest assured, it’s not what you think.

Pole dancing is often thought of as an erotic dance performed on a pole, normally in a gentleman’s establishment. These new fitness classes, popping up all over the country, are nothing even remotely close to that. The only commonalities are the pole and the level of exertion needed to master a level of fitness that is required. Pole dance classes can be an extreme workout, with even the most basic moves increasing strength and flexibility. The fitness classes offer a safe environment for women to experience the benefits and fun of learning this new fitness modality.

Kimberly Bass, creator and owner of Sweat and Stilettos in Dallas, explained, “Pole dancing can be best summarized as the exertion of confidence mixed with skill and fitness, that blends mind and body exercises.” Bass is extremely passionate about women’s fitness and went on to explain that most of her students find the experience to be a gateway to a healthier, more confident lifestyle.

Typically, classes are delivered in six sessions, lasting about 60 minutes. Bass explained that class starts with a warm-up and slowly a few comfort techniques are introduced, helping the body assimilate and allowing students to become comfortable and help them feel at ease. Shortly thereafter, a few pole tricks and spins are added. The movements are rather graceful and somewhat poetic. Class ends with a cool down.

Bass was introduced to pole dancing in 2009, when she sought ideas while planning a bachelorette party. She had been looking for new fitness routines and pole dance classes seemed fun. She booked the party and private pole dance classes for herself. Ms. Bass became a pole dance instructor and created a series of Dallas pole dance classes she now offers to women in the Dallas area.

Sweat and Stilettos offers weekly Dallas pole dance classes and private parties for events such as bachelorette parties, birthday parties and even divorce parties. And for those ladies thinking they would be too embarrassed to take one of these classes, Ms. Bass shares, “This is not dirty dancing. What we teach is fitness and dance that builds confidence and strengthens the body.”
