(Newswire.net — April, 5 2013) Austin, TX –Adam Holzman, international performer and teacher, will be an artist in residence with the Classen SAS Specialty High School in Oklahoma City, OK from April 10 – 12, 2013.
Holzman is one of the most sought out classical guitar teachers and performers in America today. This year he was invited back to the Miami Classical Guitar Society, one of the nation’s most established societies, for their 25th anniversary of their concert series as an artist from their inaugural series. He is also asked frequently to be a adjudicate major international competitions. This year he’ll be one of the judges for the Guitar Foundation of America’s Guitar Competition in Louisville and last summer he was a judge for the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition in Buffalo NY.
Holzman is founder of the classical guitar program at the University of Texas at Austin. Since 1989, he has built one of the strongest classical guitar programs in North America with many of his students winning national and international acclaim. His recordings for Naxos and HRH have received rave reviews from critics around the globe.
In addition to his teaching and recording career, Mr Holzman has an active international performance career of many years. He has performed at the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, distinguished New York venues such as Kaufman Hall at the 92nd St. Y, Merkin Hall, and Carnegie Recital Hall, as well as in music festivals and series from Miami to San Francisco, Boston to New Orleans. His extensive international performances have taken him throughout Europe, Canada, Mexico, Central and Latin America.
The New York Times wrote of his performances as “…polished and quite dazzling.” Soundboard Magazine describes his performances as follows, “Adam Holzman is a player whose hallmarks are precision and elegance…Holzman plays with sensitivity, restraint, and a consistently full sound that is always rich. A superb performance!” As a recording artist, the American Record Guide wrote of his Lauro recording, “The works of Antonio Lauro have long been popular with guitarists, yet there have been few recordings devoted exclusively to him. The landmark recording was David Russel’s 1980 LP. Now, 20 years later, comes another masterly recording by Adam Holzman: in many ways it raises the benchmark still further.”
“Teaching for me is about trying to reach each student and help them improve on their weaknesses and their strengths. A strong technical foundation allows them to create music at a higher level,” said Holzman.
When asked about if his goal during his time at Classen is to encourage high school students to pursue a performance career, Holzman replied, “Not every student who studies a musical instrument in high school will pursue it as their life’s work. The serious study of a musical instrument is a wonderful tool for teaching responsibility, discipline, organizational skills and time management that will help them with whatever life path they choose.”
