( — April 5, 2013) Seattle, WA — A new guide to help prospective interior designers has opened its virtual doors.

Top Interior Design Schools is a website that offers education and career advice for anyone who is interested in becoming a professional interior designer or would like to work in the interior design industry.  The site provides details about colleges and other schools in the USA that offer either a degree program or a concentration of coursework in interior design.

“Working in the interior design field doesn’t necessary require any specific college degree,” explains website manager Maria DeMars, “Many design professionals have a varied educational background, but for someone who is just starting out, getting as much related formal education in fields such as design, art, architecture, remodeling and other related fields may really help a young person to get their first job,” DeMars stated.

One of the key features of the website is the school search tool where interested site visitors can search for schools and classes by city or state.

“There really are not a lot of universities that offer a four-year degree in interior design,” continued DeMars, “So most prospective students may not find one in their hometown.  But a creative student can generally piece together classes from related disciplines to give them the base that they need.”

DeMars went on to say that some community colleges offer either an associate’s degree or a certificate program in design and this could be a good option for some students.

“Savvy graduates with an associate’s degree on their resume can often get started as either an intern or an assistant to a working designer,” concluded DeMars, “The most important thing is for the graduate to get their foot in the door and get some real related work experience.”
