(Newswire.net — April 11, 2013) Atlanta, GA — Best Inspirational film “Spirit of Love” will screen for a multicultural event in Georgia at the Stonecrest Library in Lithonia on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 6:30 pm.
The multicultural cast of Caucasian, African American, Chinese, Deaf and Hard of Hearing teens along with hearing and inner city kids come together to bridge the gap between various cultures while crushing stereotypes and racism in an inspiring coming of age film.
The film is inspired by retired NBA player (New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, and Milwaukee Bucks) and Fox SportSouth analyst Mike “Stinger” Glenn and his real life basketball camps for deaf and hard of hearing teens, now in its 34th year. The camp is held in June each year beginning on Father’s Day in memory of Mike’s father who taught and coached basketball at the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, Georgia for many years and where Mike grew up and learned his basketball skills as well as how to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL).
The narrative feature film was written directed and produced by Darla Rae and Film It Productions and was filmed in Georgia and Colorado.
According to Darla Rae, “It was a no brainer when it came time to cast the role of the retired NBA player. Mike Glenn is a warm, charming, and nurturing person in real life and once I watched how he is with the kids at his camp I knew he had to play himself. The film is authentic, genuine, and pure of heart. The kids had an opportunity to come together with professionals and experience something unique by acting or working as crew on a feature length family film. The teens and Mike were amazing and did not disappoint. We are excited that members of the community and media will be able to attend the premiere to meet the kids and see Mike’s amazing performance on screen.”
In addition to retired NBA player Mike “Stinger” Glenn, Deaf Olympian and Hall of Famer Willie Brown Jr., Nashville recording artist Laura Dodd, and producer director Darla Rae, all whom appear in the film, many special honored guests will attend the premiere and be introduced.
All but three of the teens in lead or supporting roles in the film are deaf or hard of hearing and the film will screen with Open Captions and feature both ASL and spoken English.
