(Newswire.net — April, 17, 2013) Karori, Wellington, NZ — Karori Wildlife Sanctuary comes to the resue with it’s water reserves.

The field manager of Council sports Julian Emeny explains “The fields are on a priority list, which they had drawn up, with those that are worst affected being attended to first. The sand based fields will be worked over the next few days.

The councils resource consent has a maximum level, which can be taken on a daily basis, but the the council had not discussed what the cap of the total amount that could be taken from the reservoir.

“While the fields are parched it’s not going to be enough to completely irrigate them. It’s more of a band aid than anything else, all we want to do at this stage, is to keep them alive.” Mr Emeny explains.

We’re planning a 10 day period, where the fields will be watered and most likely looking like a cyclical effect will take place meaning we’ll have to go back around again until we see some natural rain.

Over the next week the Rugby league Park and Lindhurst Park had all been ticked to recieve hydration as well as the both fields in Mirimar’s David Farrington Park.

Wellingtonians who flout the regions current outdoor water ban are being warned for now – $20,000 fines may come into play for offenders that repeat.

The total ban on water use outdoors came into effect 2 weeks ago to reduce the strain on the regions water reserves.

Karori Wildlife Sanctuary –

Zealandia’s

reservoir is not available for drinking. “Mr anderson of the Wellington city council says “ It will need a lot of treatment to make the water drinkable, so it’s really only good for is watering fields.”
