“Phoebe’s Place”  the brand new venue devoted to music, poetry and art, opened in Teaneck, NJ in February of 2013. Formerly the space was known as the “Blast Coffee Bar” but now with new owner John Bale“Phoebe’s Place” ushers in new energy and new talent from the surrounding areas. Phoebe’s Place is named in honor of Phoebe Snow, the voice of the 70’s with her big hit “Poetry Man”  in 1974. Born in NYC in 1950, Ms. Snow spent many years in Teaneck and the Fort Lee area after graduating from Teaneck High School. With a voice and songwriting talent that spoke for many in her generation, her music remains as vibrant as ever, with many artists covering her songs, Queen Latifah among them.

Possessor of a powerful, unique vocal instrument, her sound was unmistakable whether heard in the pop, folk, rock or jazz idiom. Not one to chase stardom, Ms. Snow preferred to live quietly in Fort Lee, NJ, taking care of her autistic daughter, Valerie. She retreated from the music performance industry spotlight, but recorded a number of intelligent, soulful albums and to this day has a devoted cult following. She was also active in the studio, doing voice overs, you might recall her voice in a General Electric TV commercial. Ms. Snow left us in 2010 from complications from a cerebral hemorrhage.

Sunday April 28, 2013, 4pm to 8pm at Phoebe’s Place promises to be a stellar afternoon. Special guest speaker, Ms. Snow’s former neighbor and friend, Senator Loretta Weinberg, will be joined by Rhonda Schuster who wrote “We Might Never Feel This Way Again” from Phoebe Snow’s CD “Something Real”. Senator Weinberg and Ms. Schuster will be sharing stories about their friendship with Ms. Snow.

Also attending and performing will be Teaneck’s own, Ms. Lauren Hooker, (Jazz Vocalist and Singer/Songwriter). Ms. Hooker will be performing “Choo Choo Baby” from “The Derailment of Penny Flyer”, a musical based on Ms. Snow’s life written by John Bale

Richie Ranno and Peter Scance, former bandmembers, longtime friends and musical associates, will be performing along with many friends who will be there to celebrate the life and legacy of Teaneck’s own, Phoebe Snow.
