( — April 26, 2013) New York, NY — Digital Reality has added a second expert-level iPad POS certification to its ranks. Alex Kugler, the company CCO and Area Manager for the San Francisco market, has earned LightSpeed Retail Inc.’s highest certification.

This designation adds Kugler to a list of only 20 expert integrators nationwide, and makes Digital Reality the first reseller to have an expert on both U.S. coasts.

“This is a great honor for us,” said company CEO Eric Catania. “Alex has proven strong knowledge and assisted nearly 100 retail stores and restaurants with their iPad POS and Apple POS.”

According to LightSpeed, an Expert integrator has attended a minimum of two LightSpeed Certification Camps, implemented at least 20 customer installs, and passed all Certification exams.

The duties of a LightSpeed reseller generally include onsite setup, customization, and training, which LightSpeed Retail does not provide directly. LightSpeed Resellers also assist in helping a customer choose Apple iPad POS hardware and networking hardware for their business.

Apple introduced the original iPad just over three years ago on April 3, 2010, and it has been disruptive to the restaurant point of sale and retail point of sale industries. In addition to presenting a challenge to the traditional Windows point of sale systems, Apple’s action spawned an entire cottage industry of secure iPad POS stands, credit card swipes, and bluetooth barcode scanners.

Legacy POS makers have presented the objection that wireless systems are vulnerable to a loss of Internet connection. Stephanie Miles was recently quoted on Street Fight as saying, “Cloud-based POS systems rely on a strong Internet connection to process transactions, which can be a real problem in the event of an Internet outage.”

To combat this concern, most iPad point of sale systems offer a local server option or offline mode to enable businesses to continue operation in the event of an Internet outage.

“Customers appreciate the ease of use and stability of the iPad POS concept, along with reduced startup costs and less ongoing support and maintenance expense,” said Kugler.

Digital Reality is a nationwide vendor of iPad POS, Apple POS, and eCommerce solutions for local businesses and national brands.
