(Newswire.net — April 30, 2013) Toronto, ON — Starting with $100 million in 2014, a collaborative effort of both government agencies and private institutions will work to develop new tools currently unknown to neuroscientists, in hopes of treating diseases like Epilepsy, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

In his announcement, Obama said “As humans, we can identify galaxies light years away, we can study particles smaller than an atom, but we still haven’t unlocked the mystery of the three pounds of matter that sits between our ears.”.

A number of scientists said that mapping and understanding the human brain presented an array of challenges.

“In this case, we have a more difficult and fascinating question of what are brain-wide activity patterns and ultimately how do they make things happen?” said Dr. Ralph J. Greenspan, who is involved in the project.

The effort will require many years of research to invent and refine new technologies used to map brain circuits in an effort to show how millions of brain cells and neurons interact.

“If we keep taking bold steps like the one we’re talking about, to learn about the brain, I’m confident that America will continue to lead the world in the next frontiers of human understanding… there’s an enormous mystery, waiting to be unlocked.” stated Obama.

The project begins next year, and with the mystery comes controversy. It will sprout a wave of innovation in the fields of nanotechnology, A.I., and of course pharmaceuticals, resulting in billions of dollars more invested in the pursuit of understanding (and capitalizing on) the brain. Nootropics Smart drugs are now reaching the marketplace and the production of these cognitive enhancers will intensify in the near future. Regulation will be an ethical matter, and government agencies will likely monitor the public release of the best brain supplements.

Independant companies are currently selling nootropic smart drugs online and seeing success, in celebrity support and feedback. The best nootropic stack on the market at the time of this press release is the Alpha Brain nootropic by Onnit Labs; their website affirms: “The formula contains highly effective ingredients that are either cutting edge or have historical use. Their combination aims to potentiate the best cognitive performance while maintaining mental clarity and long-term neurological health benefits.”.

Alpha Brain is at the front of the brain supplement industry, and Onnit Labs and similar companies will continue to supply the public with their researched nootropic blends. The BRAIN Initiative will commence soon, and as the collaboration and others like it around the world make discoveries, for better and worse, these companies will continue to provide consumers with the next line of smart drugs.
