(Newswire.net — April 29, 2013) Montreal, Quebec — A seven year old Lab/Sheppard mix came into the care of Rosie Animal Adoption, a Montreal non-profit dog rescue organization, in critical condition.  The dog recently gave birth to nine pups however an obstruction in the dog’s digestive system prevented her from taking in any form of food for weeks.  The owner failed to provide proper care resulting in the dog becoming at least twenty-five pounds under weight.  When the dog could no longer nurse her nine pups, the owner  released the dog to a rescue person and they contacted Rosie Animal Adoption for help.

Rosie volunteers responded immediately by picking up the dog and transporting her to the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital for surgery.  The dog was admitted immediately for an examination.  The ultrasound confirmed a blockage in the dog’s digestive system.  Fluids were administered immediately due to the level of dehydration and surgery was scheduled within the hour.  Rosie Animal Adoption founder Anne Dubé states, “It is very unfortunate that a human being would let a dog suffer as much as this dog has.  We see many cases of abused dogs however this one is one of the most extreme cases. We have named her “Angel” because her condition is so severe, it will take several angels to help her through the surgery and recovery.  Rosie Animal Adoption will pay for the costs of the surgery and care.  This is what we do. All money donated to our organization goes straight to the care of the dogs.  We will definitely need donations to help offset the costs of Angel’s surgery and recovery. Now we need tougher legislation that would provide more humane protection for dogs in Quebec.  Like Angel’s recovery, that is an uphill battle.”

Angel underwent a three hour surgery process.  A piece of the digestive tract was removed along with the obstruction.  Angel survived the surgery however she has a long road to recovery.  She is in constant care at the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital and will be monitored very closely.  As for the nine pups who are three weeks old, the owner gave away one and has given the other eight to Rosie Animal Adoption for care. Volunteers will look after the pups and find suitable homes for all of them in due time.  Donations to Rosie Animal Adoption can be made at their website by clicking here.
