Artist David Scott Leibowitz finishes his show at thegrassynoel GALLERY & STUDIO in Teaneck, NJ, where his work has been featured since the April 13, 2013 opening. The exhibition of his photographic artwork spanning over four decades and the release of his book: “Mobile Digital Art: Using The iPad and iPhone As Creative Tools” closes with the artist reception feauturing live jazz music provided by Lauren Hooker (singer) and Loren Daniels (piano) and refreshments. The exhibition juxtaposes Leibowitz’s most current iPhone/iPad artwork with his darkroom photo-manipulations from the 70’s, altered Polaroids SX-70’s and collage from the 80’s and 90’s and digital fine art from the early 90’s through the introduction of mobile devices in 2008. In his new book, artist, David Scott Leibowitz brings together 70 mobile digital artists from around the world in a collaboration that displays and explains how they create inspiring, original art, from concept to creation. Using striking illustrations and easy-to-follow tutorials, a myriad of art-creating apps are covered, guiding you to create your own stunning art.
Mr. Leibowitz brings over thirty years of fascination with photography, video art, and experimental filmaking to his current position as a pioneer in the developing medium of Digital Art. Mr. Leibowitz is part of a new generation of artists who are redefining the boundaries of both fine arts and popular culture. Having come of age during the information revolution, his work merges an appreciation for the plastic arts with an affinity for advanced computer technology.
Leibowitz completed his formal education in 1976 with a bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema from the University of Bridgeport. Studies included film, video, photography, and art, with experimental filmaker Warren Bass, and Video artist Shalom Gorewitz. During the late seventies, he completed his formative period working for Director/Cinematographer Tibor Hirsch.
At the turn of the century, he designed the searchable web site, Leibo.net as a living, ever changing portal into his world. It extensively documents this artist’s evolution of imagery into the digital age, and is updated constantly with new work. In 2008, he began making art on a new computing platform, Apple’s iPhone, and using dozens of iPhone apps, is now creating Art as new as the latest Photo/Art apps release. In 2009, he co-developed his iPhone app, “iCreated” with developer Andrew Stone, that is dedicated to promoting iPhone art via a gallery of international artists, and creating a visual link between iPhone art, and applications. 2010 saw the introduction of his iPad Art and the co-founding of iAMDA, the International Association of Mobile Digital Artists, an organization dedicated to promoting iPhone and iPad art.With a multitude of images created in various mediums, the latest tools and techniques and a refined artistic sensibility, Mr. Leibowitz, camera still in hand, continues his pursuit of new methods to match new visions. thegrassynoel GALLERY & STUDIO, recently sprouted in Teaneck, is a one of a kind experience for both artists and the public started by former Apple employee and artist Noel Gussen. This unique space displays the work of featured local artists as well as his own in a modern, clean-cut gallery and studio. Noel focuses on a green yet technological atmosphere.
Musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Lauren Hooker/Loren Daniels Duo. NYC based recording and performing artist Lauren Hooker, helps to continue the tradition of innovative jazz singing. Critics from across the nation and abroad have likened her favorably to Dianne Reeves, Nancy Wilson, Anita O’Day, Sheila Jordan, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington, but with a style uniquely her own and “a voice with its own distinctive character” (AllAboutJazzUK).Ms. Hooker appears regularly as a jazz vocalist as well as a pianist/vocalist singer/songwriter. Loren Daniels studied music at Hofstra University and Berklee College of Music before graduating from SUNY at Old Westbury with a B.S. in music and elementary education. He received an M.A. in music education from New York University. Loren currently teaches choral music and music technology in the Teaneck, NJ public schools. He has been a member of the faculty there since 1979. He is also music coordinator for Jazz Vespers at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Teaneck. As a composer/lyricist, Loren has written music for a variety of settings. Many of his original pieces are performed by the Loren Daniels Trio.
