(Newswire.net – May 7, 2013) Phoenix, AZ The Be Kind People Project™ and Teach For America announced a program today to celebrate teachers and inspire students during Teacher Appreciation Week 2013, which runs from May 6-10.

The Be Kind People Project will hold a series of high-energy It’s Cool 2B Kind™ school events throughout the week.

Featuring performances by The Be Kind Crew™—a group of young performers who use classical technique, urban style and hip-hop rhythms to communicate messages of kindness and appreciation?the assemblies will be attended by nearly 10,000 students and 500 teachers. They will take place at selected Title 1 schools in Phoenix and Las Vegas that have partnerships with Teach For America.

Teacher Appreciation All Week

Throughout the assemblies, The Be Kind Crew will:

  • Present teachers and students with autographed cards that describe the top ten ways to “show a teacher you care.”
  • Offer teachers Classroom Kindness Kits, which include gifts of appreciation, as well as messages of thanks for their commitment to student success.
  • Provide parents and students with materials to thank their teachers, including free e-cards available on The Be Kind People Project website.

Be Kind Phoenix!

The events during Teacher Appreciation Week 2013 will mark the conclusion of a pilot school partnership program called Be Kind Phoenix™.

The program encourages students at selected “Starter Schools” to reach out and “pay it forward” by filling a Kindness Box with anonymous messages, pictures or crafts for their peers. Since its inception, more than 24,000 Phoenix students have extended gestures of kindness to their peers in classrooms across the Valley.

“Teachers are the guiding influence in driving the behavior changes among students that are starting to uplift and transform our nation’s classrooms,” said Marcia Meyer, founder of The Be Kind People Project.  “Since we first launched our programs, more than 30,000 teachers have been acknowledged for their work and more than one million students have received resources and supplies that help them pay kindness forward. We’re delighted to wrap up our 2012-13 program by collaborating with Teach For America to recognize teachers in Las Vegas and Phoenix for their invaluable contributions to our children’s futures.”
