Geocaching is not new, but it is certainly new to some. If you live in or around Boise, ID and have been looking for a fun activity to engage in, you might be amazed at how much geocaching is already going on around you. Go to Geocaching.com and create a free account and you can bring up a map search of “caches” in Boise that will blow you away. THERE ARE HUNDREDS in the city alone. I bet you there is even one or two in your own neighborhood that you had no idea about. As I’ve said, it’s not new, but you probably never had any idea you were walking or driving right by them.
Since most people would probably have to be introduced to the beloved pastime by a current geocacher, chances are if you don’t know anyone who “plays”, you’ve probably never done it. That’s where the Meetup group comes in. Meetup.com is a “live” social site dedicated to getting people together in real life who have the same interests. A Boise Gecoachers Group has just been launched on the site where geocachers from around the Treasure Valley can schedule events and trips to go out and go geocaching with new members or experienced geocachers alike.
It is definitely the best season for outdoor activities and as anyone living around the area can tell you, Boise is one of the best places in the country to live for outdoor sports and hobbies. Not only are there hundreds of geocaches in the city alone, there are hundreds more in the surrounding foothills and wilderness areas. On any given day you can find people out enjoying the warm weather and sunshine in and around the Boise area, and a lot of them are geocaching. Join the Meetup group at http://www.meetup.com/Boise-Geocachers/ and join them.
