Redruth School in Cornwall has partnered with a local company to create a fully equipped gym on the School site. During School hours the facilities are available to students and teachers. Once the School closes the doors open to members of the public and teachers. The gym has been open for a few weeks and is proving popular with students, teachers and members of the public.
Founder and gym manager Luke Collins has been involved with gym management in Cornwall since 2007. “When the opportunity to work with the School arose I was obviously very interested. The project is evolving but I am very pleased with how it is going so far” said Luke.
Public private partnerships are on the rise but are typically on a much larger scale. With this much smaller scale relationship the school benefits from Luke’s expertise in setting up the gym and also in his work with the kids who choose to use the gym at the end of the day.
The Red Gym benefits by utilising the great facilities the school has to offer.
Redruth School is one of the 100 top performing schools in England and aims to be a vibrant part of the local community so this project is part of that.
The School is proud of the gym which is spread over 3 rooms housing the CV equipment, resistance and free weights machines and also the class stud io. The large class studio is capable of holding up to 50 students or members. Classes include Zumba, Bokwa, Pilates, Core, Boot camps and Cross training.
With the Gym in Redruth School there is also extensive free parking for all members.
Luke’s ultimate goal is to improve people’s health and fitness in Cornwall and the gym and the work with the school is the first step towards that goal.
