Newswire.net — May 17, 2013) Calgary, AB — Was the denial of the proposed Enbridge Kinder Morgan Project and the Northern Gateway Project the reason for Adrian Dix recent loss of the BC election? When Mr. Dix declared his opposition to the projects declaring the risks were too great for the environment this may have been the catalyst to alter the vote of the British Columbian people.
It would appear that many British Columbians are in favor of the pipeline; otherwise they would have seen this as a benefit and would thus vote NDP for a certain victory. Since this did not happen there has to be more support for the Kinder Morgan Project and the Northern Gateway Project by Enbrige (TSE:ENB) (NYSE:ENB), than many may have previously thought.
Christy Clark on the other hand was open to the economic benefits of the pipeline projects, and attributes the Liberal win to this open mindedness. Ms. Clark explains, “The idea that you’re going to say no to economic development before you even see it — I think that was part of it, the issue of who was going to say yes to economic development.”
Voting in a majority Liberal government one could assume that most British Columbians are looking at it from the viewpoint that the pipeline projects will be good for the B.C. economy. Perhaps they too want to give it a chance before saying absolutely, “No!” More jobs and increased spending in local communities by pipeline companies and their workers would surely improve local and provincial economies.
Alberta oil and gas producers were clearly in favor of a Liberal win due to the fact that the Liberals are considered to be more in favor of the pipeline projects. The pipelines would surely benefit Alberta’s economy not only by delivering bitumen to B.C’s coast but also providing jobs to many Albertans.
As the CBC recently reported Rod Love, one of the organizers of a Calgary fundraiser for the B.C. Liberals said that 130 companies had attended. These Alberta companies must feel that the Liberals will be more likely to give the Northern Gateway and Kinder Morgan project the go ahead. Mr. Love failed to mention how much money was raised but according to the CBC “records showed that hundreds of thousands of dollars were donated to the Liberal government.”
Will the project go ahead? Only time will tell. In the meantime there will be much debate, environmental studies and reviews.
