Are You Being Watched By Big Brother Security Cameras

(Newswire.net — May 23, 2013) Sydney, Australia — The first closed-circuit television (CCTV) system was installed in Germany 1942. The purpose was to observe the launching of the V-2 rocket. Yes, controversial but it was a safe way to view the launches. The first commercial CCTV system was in America 1949. One interesting fact was that this security camera system did not require a government permit to install or operate.

Years passed, and the security cameras and video surveillance systems only improved. All things improve with time, but only if the thing is popular enough to be improved on! If we consider that the surveillance camera made its debut in 1942, and it has always improved from that time, it is safe to suggest that security cameras are popular!

Popular worldwide, so why is this a fact when people feel their privacy is being invaded. Governments, and councils have taken on the implementation of installing security cameras in our public streets. These cameras are better known as streetscape cameras, or public surveillance cameras. The intention of these security cameras is to oversee the public arena, to ensure the members of the public are safe. Security cameras cannot physically protect you, they do serve as a fast conduit to our law enforcement and medical personnel, so as to reduce the time taken to assist the public, in an emergency.

The other reason security cameras are being used in the public arena is to capture video evidence of street crime. With this additional information about street crime, law enforcement can be better deployed to higher risk areas. Offenders are more likely to be apprehended with the video footage that will act against them.

As we all venture out into the public arena, we should all feel a sense of security, knowing that we have our backs covered with friendly eyes. It really does come down to the fact that if we are in a public place, and we are there with no intention of malice towards any of our surroundings, human or otherwise, we have no reason to think our privacy has been invaded.

There are also other methods to increase our security camera coverage. This would be to involve all members of the public, commercial and domestic, to install security cameras overseeing their own properties. This increased video surveillance would reduce the number of security cameras required by our governments which also would reduce, not eliminate, the idea that big brother is watching!
