Cheap $50 Smartphones to Compete With Apple Iphone and Google Android

(Newswire.net — June 3, 2013) New York, NY — The Wall Street Journal announced today that Mozilla is planning to establish a lower cost smartphone business in emerging markets.

“We see huge opportunities in the emerging markets where the customers and carriers crave for affordable smartphones,” Li Gong, a Mozilla senior vice president of mobile devices, told the Journal. “We focus on the low-cost segment because it is under-served.”

Mozilla, the parent of Firefox web browser, is preparing to use its Firefox Web browser, Firefox OS, as the newest operating system for smartphones.

Teaming up with phone manufactures it plans to launch the Firefox equipped phones for less than $50.

The global market for smartphones is taking off and Mozzila Corp. wants a piece of it.

Aiming for a 10% share of the global smartphone market, Gong said the goal is to get 2 billion of the low-costs devices in the hands of first-time users in places like India and China. On Monday, Mozilla announced a partnership with Hon Hai, which produces hardware under the trade name Foxconn, to develop devices and applications together. Foxconn is well-known for producing Apple’s iPhones and iPads, among other products, in their Chinese factories.
