(Newswire.net — June 14, 2013) Mount Baker, WA — The website SnowboardShoppingGuide.com is attracting attention for having reached its 10th anniversary of online operation, which it is celebrating today.

The website is an online resource for information on snowboarding, including information about snowboards, bindings, boots, goggles, helmets, snow sport manufacturers, retailers, clubs, organizations and resorts.

The web editor Sam Hanson acknowledges the landmark. “Obviously, we are very happy to have hit our 10-year anniversary. Happy and maybe a little bit surprised. Ten years ago we didn’t anticipate we would still be doing this a decade later.”

A decade prior, it was not clear if highly specific niche stores were viable businesses to operate long-term at all, let alone just on the Web. But according to a spring 2013 report by the Snow Sports Industries America and Leisure Trends Group, the ski and snowboard retail industry has grown to $3.4 billion in annual retail revenue, an increase in 6% in total dollar sales compared to previous years.

The site is part of a sales channel for such specialty shops that consumer spent $810 million online for during the past winter season. Hanson views the development as confirmation of the vision that went into creating an Internet portal for buying snowboard gear 10 years ago. “We get all different types of visitors. We get a lot of visitors who are just getting into the sport. They are looking for a lot of basic information about products and where to get them. But we also get more advanced boarders who are more interested in our lists of links of manufacturers and accessory retailers.”

The SnowboardShoppingGuide.com site was set up to provide a year-round resource through which enthusiasts can carefully and patiently shop for new gear across a variety of vendors, and even order in advance of the season with increased confidence. The site also provides a place for ongoing consumer education into this winter sports specialty.

Hanson believes that the usage of their site will continue to thrive as the industry continues to grow each year and new people get started in the sport.
