(Newswire.net – June 15, 2013) Anaheim, CA — Why is the American manufacturing sector so important to the US economy?

Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the manufacturing sector has played a critical role in the US and International economy.

In the recent 48 page report by AmericanProgress.org, attribute much of the growth of International economics to American manufacturing. Domestic manufacturing is a key component for current and future generations. In the US, almost 15% of jobs are in some sort of manufacturing, and this number is steadily growing.

Here are a few of the critical factors that American Manufacturing influences:

  • Manufacturing jobs are solid middle-class income jobs
  • Middle to High Skilled jobs offer upward mobility
  • A key to service jobs and growth in service sector
  • Protects goods from global instability

America was built on innovation, ingenuity and hard work. During the 1980’s and 90’s, the trend to outsource American manufacturing jobs had become an epidemic. The most common excuse for this outsourcing was costs. Fortunately, this tide has slowly turned. Many corporations that outsourced jobs to foreign workers are bringing jobs back to America. Some factors leading these corporations to bring back much of their manufacturing to the USA are; poor quality, production and shipping time, lack of regulation and safety, among other factors.

End users, OEM’s, factories and service providers have made their voice heard, and they are demanding; improved quality, safer products and American made products.

The FDA released reports of over 900 pets becoming sick or dying from bad pet treats imported from China in late 2012. In 2007, thousands of pets experienced kidney failure, and over 3,600 pets died from eating contaminated pet food. In addition to the loss of family pets, the cost to the pet food market was well over $42 million.

According to Wikipedia, “In a teleconference with reporters on 1 May, officials from the FDA and U.S. Department of Agriculture said between 2.5 and 3 million people in the United States had consumed chickens that had consumed feed containing contaminated vegetable protein from China”. The end result was a distrust of imported foods by many consumers.

While these examples are far from normal, the American public has become aware of the possible contamination of their products. Many factories throughout the US have focused their efforts on supplying higher quality products, and using primarily US made components. American factories and suppliers are proud of supplying US made materials.

“Made in America, really does still mean something,” stated Dave Hyatt of Industrial Plastic Supply of Anaheim, CA. “We have worked hard to maintain the highest quality and premium performance in our plastic material. Over 97% of our product line is made in America. And the remaining products are still purchased from American suppliers, but may be produced by European parent companies”.
