(Newswire.net — June 21, 2013) Portland, OR — Cardiovascular disease normally starts many years before it is detected. Gandolfini clearly enjoyed his life and was probably overweight, possibly inactive and potentially suffered from a number of risk factors. Gandolfini was a large man and reportedly that a heavy eater and drinker. It can be speculated that he also suffered from an elevated blood pressure and possibly metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is a set of conditions, which includes a large waistline, high triglycerides, and high cholesterol that dangerously hike heart attack risk.
Following a plant based diet, exercising, and “clean living,” can help reverse these risk factors but people often choose or refuse to make necessary lifestyle changes.
Cardiovascular disease is one of the largest causes of death in the world. Because of that, any substance that can slow your risk should be considered especially if it is as safe, accessible and affordable drug alternative.
Accordingly, a new study published in the International Journal Cardiology indicated that aged garlic extract, in conjunction with vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin B6 and arginine, is capable of altering the ratio of brown to white adipose (fat) tissue surrounding the heart muscle, reducing homocysteine (a blood vessel damaging amino acid) and slowing the progression of coronary artery calcification in human subjects.
Indeed, a new study published in the International Journal Cardiology indicates that aged garlic extract, in combination with vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin B6 and arginine, is capable of altering the ratio of brown to white adipose (fat) tissue surrounding the heart muscle. In additicion, it can affect homocysteine levels (a blood vessel damaging amino acid) and slowing the progression of coronary artery calcification in human subjects.
Humans (mammals in general) have two types of fat, brown and white.
Brown fat’s primary role is to generate heat, which is why it is abundant in newborns and hibernating animals. White fat’s main purpose is to accumule energy for storage, and does not have the high density of iron-containing mitochondria which enables it to generate heat and which makes it brown.
Garlic is already well known to have therapeutic properties in calcification disorders of the cardiovascular system. Some of it’s benefits include:
- Anti-platelet (blood thinning) properties
- Anti-inflammatory
- Improving endothelial function
In retrospect, maybe Mr. Gandolfini should have focused more on Garlic instead of spaghetti.
