(Newswire.net — August 22, 2013) Lake Worth, FL –Through the use of energy efficient technology, the City of Allen, Texas, has significantly reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions at the Joe Farmer Recreation Center. Specifically, the lighting technologies implemented into the building have met and exceeded the requirements of the 2005 Energy Policy Act (EPAct) as an “Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings.” Through the EPAct Gives Back™ program, the City has been rewarded for its initiative and stewardship.

Implementation of energy conservation initiatives demonstrate the City of Allen’s strong commitment to energy efficiency and cost avoidance which benefits the local tax paying community.  The lighting system alone will save tax payers more than $8,000.00 per year in utility costs. This reduction is equivalent to reducing the City of Allen’s carbon emissions by 129,992 lbs. (65 tons) a year. This is also equivalent to the City of Allen removing 12 Passenger vehicles off of local roads or preserving 48 acres of U.S. forests.

The City of Allen went through an intense engineering analysis and inspection process in order to meet all the requirements of the Energy Policy Act, administered by Walker Reid Strategies, Inc., and have received certificates for their achievements in Energy Conservation. Their commitment to Greener facilities is admirable and an example to other institutions.
