(Newswire.net — August 18, 2013)Orlando, FL –According to research by Miles D. Witham, Ph.D., from Dundee  University,  Scotland, UK, and professional colleagues.

A total of one hundred and fifty nine patients with the average age of 77 years old, That suffer from isolated systolic hypertension took part in the random clinical trial. The Patients were randomly assigned to either the vitamin D group or a matching placebo group, & received supplements every 3 months for 12 months. Researchers then measured the difference in office blood pressure, 24-hour blood pressure, endothelial function, arterial stiffness, insulin resistance, cholesterol level and b-type Natriuretic peptide level during the one year study period.

No significant improvement effect was seen for average office blood pressure, and no significant improvement effect was evident in any of the secondary outcomes (24-hour blood pressure, arterial stiffness, glucose level, endothelial function, cholesterols level, & walking distance), according to the results.

“It doesn’t look like – at the moment – (people) are going to be able to control their blood pressure with vitamin D supplements,” Miles Witham said

“It is still possible, however, that vitamin D supplementation could have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health via non-blood pressure effects, and ongoing large randomized trials are due to report on this in the next few years,” the research concludes.
