The Jacksonville Business Journal has named Fernandina Beach resident Nicola Nichol to its  ‘Women of Influence’ list for 2012
Nichol was one of only 20 women in Northeast Florida selected for the award, which honors women for their accomplishments in business and community service. She was the only recipient named from Fernandina Beach.
Nichol is the owner of Financial Strategies of Amelia, an independent financial services firm located in Fernandina Beach, on Amelia Island, that serves area business owners and families. She describes her business focus as comprehensive financial planning including investment management, life insurance, retirement planning, and long-term care insurance.
According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, candidates for the award are women who have made a significant achievement in their careers in the past year. Nominees were considered based on a “strong record of innovation or outstanding performance” in their work and being actively involved in their community. Eligibility extends through Duval, Clay, Nassau, St. Johns, Baker, Flagler or Putnam counties.
“I’m gratified and honored by the recognition,” said Ms. Nichol. “It’s gratifying to know that the skills and training I put to work on behalf of clients is appreciated and a degree of recognition for the philosophy and set of principles that govern every aspect of my business.”
As a firm believer in financial education, Nichol co-hosts a monthly meeting called “Women, Wealth and Wine” with Jan Carver, an elder law attorney in Fernandina Beach. The program, noted Ms. Nichol, allows women to ask questions about finances and family, to learn about important financial issues and to exchange ideas.
Nichol is a member of the CFA Society of Jacksonville and the Amelia Professional Advisory Council for the Jacksonville Community Foundation. She serves on the Board of SEZARC (South-East Zoo Alliance for Reproduction and Conservation). SEZARC works on reproductive challenges to support self-sustaining populations of endangered species of animals in captivity and in the wild. Nichol is also part of White Oak Conservation Center’s IACUC Committee (internal animal use and care committee), which reviews procedures that can cause stress or pain to an animal involved in a research project at White Oak.
She is a past Board Member of the Amelia Island Book Festival, The Rotary Club of Fernandina Beach and the Newcomers Club of Amelia Island as well as past President of the local BNI Chapter.
