If You Are Painting a Home, Practice With The Colors First

The hardest part of having your house painted is picking the right colors for the right room.  Perhaps more art than science however there are ways that you can limit the mistake of not getting the color or texture right without having to wait until the job is completed.  Residential and commercial painters like E&R Quality Painting in Wesley Chapel, Florida encourage as much diligence on the part of a homeowner as possible before taking the plunge.

One can get sample paints from a store to more than look at a color but actually paint a small portion of the proposed colors on the actual wall where the paint color is to go.  This way, it is possible to see the light and effects of other things such as shadows, furniture, flooring, etc that can sway the way the room will appear.  Seeing the paint on the wall in different lights for example daylight and nighttime can impact that color choice as well.

Taking the paint and actually brushing it where you would like to see it is the best idea but it is suggested to paint at least 500mm x 500mm in size and at least 2-3 coats on that spot.  Painting different spots and locations throughout the house is also a good idea.

The other consideration is whether to use a gloss, high gloss, or a flat paint which alters the direction and attention to the eye and a person’s impact when present.  Different colors provide either subtle or dramatic looks and should be considered when testing these colors.  The modern feel today is using grays however light gray or bluish gray is more subtle while a dark gray is dramatic and bolder in feel.

Residential painters strongly purport using this method of deductive selection since paint can be expensive and redoing a wall or house can be time intensive.  This process also removes the problem of a homeowner being indecisive on the paint selection and removes this responsibility from the painting contractor.  Rarely do painters want to make that paint color and texture selection for the homeowner but regardless, a customer can and will change their mind if they have not carefully undergone this extra process of evaluation.

As arduous a tsk as this may seem, it can actually become enjoyable and somewhat creative that a family can collectively participate in playing with the color schematics on the walls of different rooms.  After all, when else can you set your kids free to paint on the walls and smile while they are doing it?
