(Newswire.net — January 25, 2014) SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Dr. Steve Hughes, a well-known researcher and pediatric neuropsychologist, will visit the Bay Area and speak about the benefits of Montessori education for young children. From February 3rd through 7th, Dr. Hughes is giving a talk at a different Montessori school each night all events are open to the public.

Dr. Steven J. Hughes is a pediatric neuropsychologist and a frequent speaker and consultant to education organizations around the world. Dr. Hughes is a past president of the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology and serves as Chair of the Association Montessori Internationale Global Research Committee and is a member of the American Montessori Society Research Committee.

These talks are a great opportunity for anyone who has heard of Montessori education and is wondering what it is all about. In his talks, Dr. Hughes gives concrete examples of how to support your child’s brain development in parenting, teaching or any other work with children. “During his visit, Dr. Hughes speaks on a range of topics. I’ve listened to several of his presentations, and whether he speaks on brain development or shares Montessori-inspired, proven parenting tips, it’s always an inspiring and very educational experience”, says Amanda Hyer, Outreach Coordinator for the Bay Area Montessori Association (BAMA).

“We’re excited to be able to join forces with the four other Montessori schools to bring Dr. Hughes to the Bay Area”, says Ray Girn, CEO at LePort Schools, which is opening a new Montessori school in San Francisco in Fall 2014. “Montessori education offers such a compelling alternative to both traditional and progressive education. It’s one of the few, or maybe even the only, educational system that has a solid, scientific base, and the proof is evident in decades of success. If you’ve ever wondered whether Montessori might be right for your child, or if you’re an educator who is looking for ways to inspire your practice, you won’t want to miss the chance to attend one of these talks.”

While he is in the Bay Area, Dr. Hughes is available during the day for media interviews and other events. You can contact Dr. Hughes via his web site, or email Amanda Hyer, Outreach Coordinator for the Bay Area Montessori Association at akhyer@gmail.com and we can coordinate your interview request.

Five Montessori schools all over the Bay Area are hosting Dr. Hughes. All talks will start at 6 pm and run for two hours, including a Q&A. Please contact the hosting schools for details or to RSVP to secure your seat.

Why 20th Century Education Techniques Won’t Work in the 21st Century and What We Can Do About It

As our children face their adult lives they will not be tied to a single job, employer, or even industry, and will experience career paths that were unimaginable before.

Current trends in education focus on rigid control, high-stakes academic testing, and limited school curricula.  Children do not have the opportunity to develop the broad-based problem identification and problem-solving skills necessary for happy, productive—indeed, interesting lives. Learn how the Montessori approach provides education that meets the needs for success, happiness, leadership, and progress in the world of the 21st century
