AMG, a drug that lowers dangerous cholesterol, is declared a “new hope” for heart disease sufferers by HomeAndRecreation.org, a website focused on all aspects of American living. The report comes as new statistics show that AMG lowers the amount of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.

“This is exciting news for all of us,” says Justin Theroux, health editor for Home and Recreation. “Because of the recently released stats, we can all have renewed hope that there’s a drug – AMG – ready to fight LDL cholesterol. That’s going to mean a lot for Americans.”

LDL, often referred to as the ‘bad cholesterol’, is a leading cause of heart disease. Heart disease is one of the biggest killers of Americans, along with cancer, stroke, and respiratory diseases. AMG promises to target and lower LDL.

“A drug that can help get rid of bad cholesterol will be a life saver,” says Theroux. “Although AMG has just finished two rounds of clinical trials, it already looks like it is going to be an important weapon in the fight against heart disease.”

AMG services the bloodstream along with the liver to combat a protein called PCSK9, which blocks certain receptors on the liver from properly removing LDL. Once proper liver function is restored, LDL levels will decrease as the liver begins to eliminate the LDL. Many cholesterol fighting drugs are already on the market, but AMG promises to be an even more effective treatment.

Home And Recreation also reports that the drug is ready for a third phase of clinical trials, with nearly 27,000 research patients. If similar results are found in the next round of trials, the drug will be considered for wider use.
