The news has been filled with many stories of job losses.
The Scottish arm of publisher Trinity Mirror is seeking an undisclosed
number of voluntary redundancies as it seeks to “reposition” the business.
Media Scotland says it needs to restructure its business to take advantage of digital growth.
JPMorgan Chase plans to eliminate a total of 8,000 jobs this year as its mortgage business shrinks and as the giant bank aims to control costs at its branches.
The new job cuts include reductions in the bank’s mortgage and retail banking businesses. The bank also cut 16,500 jobs last year in those areas.
Binghamton lost 600 jobs from February of 2013 to February of 2014.
Of those 600 job losses 500 were in the private sector.
Japanese automaker Honda unveiled further cuts to its manufacturing operations in Britain citing disappointing sales growth in Europe which it did not see picking up in the next couple of years.
Honda Motor Europe said it planned to move from a three to two shift pattern at its manufacturing plant in Swindon, southwest England, resulting in an estimated 340 job losses, slightly more than 10 percent of the workforce.
Mr McEwan, revealing results from a review of the battered bank, predicted it will take a further three to five years for NatWest owner RBS to recover.
Plans include cutting its branch network, shrinking some other operations and banning “sweeteners” used to attract new customers.
Further job cuts will add to the 30,000 already imposed.
The Co-op is planning to slash costs by £500million over four years, which will lead to between 4,000 and 5,000 job losses, according to reports.
