(Newswire.net– April 7, 2014) — Singapore American School (SAS) high school student Dylan Palladino is raising hunger consciousness to new heights. In June, Dylan will climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness for school meal programs. Dylan’s goal is to raise $125,000, which will provide 2.8 million meals for Caring for Cambodia’s school meal program.

No stranger to mountain climbing or charitable giving, 14-year old Dylan and his mother, Denise, have been involved with community projects around the world since he was five years old. This exposure to the reality of poverty and inequality motivate his commitment to service. “School meal programs work,” said Dylan. “They boost school enrollment and academic performance. Hunger is a solvable problem and school meal programs are proven to work.”

In many developing countries, where hunger and poverty is greatest, school meals are a game changer in the fight against hunger. By nourishing the bodies and minds of school children, Dylan is seeking to make an investment in the next generation.

Dylan created ‘THE BELIEVE BOOK’, named because he believes anyone can be a changemaker. The book documents his fundraising activities from setting up a lemonade stall for the Katrina relief fund, to partnering with Africa Foundation to build a new school in KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, to founding A Step Up for Haiti – an initiative that facilitated thousands of personalized crutches for youth amputees in Haiti, to summiting Mt. Kinabalu for CFC, to being named “New Yorker of the Week” for his (young) life of charitable giving.

When asked why he does this, Dylan replied, “I have been lucky from an early age to have been exposed to many cultures around the world through my travels. I realized there are many children in the world that have so few resources because of where they live.” He continued, “I really feel that anyone and everyone can make a difference, I just want to energize and encourage kids to be more compassionate and socially responsible. With this project, giving a little means a lot when it takes only $30 to feed a child in school for a whole year.”

The challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro for charity is a promise that Dylan and Denise made when working on a service project at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro when Dylan was nine. Dylan and his mother started training for the climb late last year. They’ve now added altitude training into their routine to better prepare their body for the 19,341 foot summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
