(Newswire.net — May 5, 2014) THOMSON, Ill — A new Christian-based audio drama for children is drawing comparisons to “Adventures In Odyssey” and “The Chronicles of Narnia,” and has received praise from Kirk Cameron and Glenn Beck — as well as from some of the top talent in audio theater.
The two-CD set, “Under Drake’s Flag,” re-tells the story of Christian explorer Sir Francis Drake through the eyes of a young boy, Ned, who accompanies Drake on multiple high seas adventures. Drake is best known for being the first Englishman to circle the globe and for his role in the defeat of the Spanish Armada.
“My own family loved this story about the great English explorer, Sir Francis Drake, and I know you will, too,” Cameron said. “The quality of the production and the life lessons are nothing short of amazing.
“I strongly recommend this for families looking not only for wholesome entertainment, but a great fast-moving adventure story that brings Christian history to life. Our kids need real heroes that put God first. ‘Under Drake’s Flag’ is a story that does just that.”
The “Under Drake’s Flag” CD has been popular among the homeschool community, and the CD’s executive producer, Bill Heid, will be attending two current and upcoming homeschool conventions to discuss with families the need to teach children real history:
— The Family Covenant Ministries’ 30th Annual Conference and Curriculum Fair in St. Charles, Mo., May 5-7.
— The NICHE Conference in Des Moines, Iowa, May 15-17.
“Under Drake’s Flag” is based on G.A. Henty’s popular historical novel and is the first time that a Henty novel has been recorded for audio theater. Heirloom Audio Productions, which recorded the CD, currently is making a second CD, In Freedom’s Cause, which stars Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates in “Downton Abbey”), Billy Boyd (Pippin in “Lord Of The Rings”), Skandar Keynes (Edmund in the “Chronicles of Narnia” series) and Jimmy Cosmo (Campbell, Father Christmas in “Braveheart” and “Chronicles of Narnia,” respectively).
Bill Heid is available for interviews to discuss “Under Drake’s Flag,” “In Freedom’s Cause” and the need to teach children history.
