(Newswire.net — May 9, 2014) Jacksonville Beach, FL — Singer, songwriter, recording artist Dalton Cyr captured the top number of direct contributions and the second most votes in the music category at One Spark, The World’s Crowdfunding Festival which took place in Jacksonville, Florida in April.
The 13 year old competed against well-established bands and other solo acts, vying for his share of votes and direct contributions from the crowd at One Spark. A solo artist working on his second album, Dalton Cyr was a strong crowd favorite collecting 1000% more in direct contributions than any other music performer and despite many of the tweens and teens in his fan base not carrying the proper ID and therefore unable to vote, placed second in the popular vote.
In its second year, One Spark has received National and International attention by showcasing some 630 projects from around the world, offering $310,000 in crowd funds to be distributed to project creators based on popular vote of the crowd as well as juried selections in each category.
Cyr says, “It wasn’t like anything I’ve ever done. I’d get up and go to school, go directly to One Spark from school and perform multiple shows and talk to lots of people. Two nights I had to change into a Tux and go back to school to perform in LaVilla School of the Art’s Showcase concert. Then I came back to One Spark and did two more performances.”
The teen who writes and co-writes all his own songs, is working on his second album. His project was to raise money to help with production of this album along with marketing and tour support. Cyr has two tours scheduled for this summer. One is an anti-bully tour he’ll be headlining in Massachusetts and Rhode Island where he’ll be doing 22 performances in front of thousands of tweens and teens between June 9-22nd .
A second tour he wanted support for was for his Dream Factory Tour. The Dream Factory, an all-volunteer organization that grants dreams to critically and chronically ill children, named Cyr National Ambassador last fall. He plans to do shows to help the organization raise money and awareness, but because it’s all volunteer, his travel expenses are out of pocket.
To help gain votes, Cyr performed 21 times during the 5-day festival, singing and playing guitar and performing his original songs. He says he had a team of people who helped him hand out stickers, postcards and balloons that said, “Vote Dalton Cyr”. He also had people go to his website, www.daltoncyr.com to download one of his song’s free.
Cyr says, “It was really great to be with so many creative thinkers and see and hear all the ideas. It would have been great to get the $10,000 first place check, but I feel I gained a lot more than votes and money. I got a ton of exposure, gained a lot of new fans and got to meet and perform for people who had heard of me, but hadn’t seen me. Plus I made some great contacts that will lead to more opportunities.”
