(Newswire.net — June 7, 2014)  — The San Francisco bay area, including Palo Alto, has just welcomed some Bitcoin accepting restaurants to the community.

There are now a total of twelve restaurants and café’s accepting bitcoin. Most of them are utilizing Bitpay, allowing them to think in dollars while transacting in bitcoin. A very handy feature!

According Darrel Oribello, regional manager of Curry Up Now, “My initial reservation was that it wouldn’t be popular or that it would hold up the line,” he says. “It has been a smooth process, though. There is no difference between when someone is paying with bitcoin or credit cards.”

Meanwhile just down the road (or across the bay), online giant eBay (is that where the name came from) is considering their options surrounding the acceptance of Bitcoin.

eBay has always been of the forefront of helping of providing alternate and consistent payment methods online merchants even going as far as filing a patent for accepting digital currencies.

eBay president and CEO John Donahoe stated “I think there’s no doubt digital currency is going to play an important role going forward, and at PayPal, we’re going to have to integrate digital currencies into our wallet.”

While Bitcoin may be starting slow in the United States, the largest concentrations of users and early adopters appears across the pond in the Eurozone, with the top three being Denmark, Sweden, and Poland.

Why?

Because Bitcoin operates as an inflation hedge and an excellent way of processing transactions securely and safely over a long distance.

But back in D.C. (ok Arlington) we find out about another government scandal.

A researcher at the National Science Foundation was busted for using all that super-computing power (data collection too) to do some Bitcoin prospecting. But even with over $150,000 worth of computing power, he only managed to mine roughly $10,000.

I guess that’s one way to fund your research project!
