(Newswire.net — June 26, 2014) Thousand Oaks, California — When the plaintiff loses in a legal case, it doesn’t always mean they were wrong. Cases can be lost for many reasons. There are some social mindsets that plaintiffs are money hungry, litigious and deserved to lose. No doubt, there are cases where the intent may be suspect, but there are just as many cases where plaintiffs are seeking to right a wrong.

From the day a case is filed to the day it lands in court can be weeks, months or sometimes years. During that time the plaintiff still has bills to pay and a life to maintain. Inured parties may have difficulty working and maintaining adequate income. Discovery, depositions, examinations and court hearings can interfere with daily business or a regular job. Family and friends may be relied upon more heavily, both emotionally and financially.

Even though many civil cases are accepted by lawyers on a contingency basis, the client still has to take care of their personal expenses. After the loss, they may left with a huge financial burden, feelings of discouragement and in personal injury cases, the need for additional medical care with no means to afford it. They may find family to be less understanding and friends who walk away or question their honesty because a judge or jury decided for their opponent. The nightmare may last for years, and when least expected, rear it’s tormenting head again.

In the end, they may feel alone. How do they rebuild their lives, emotionally, financially and physically? Where do they turn for understanding support?

This is the focus of the new anthology to be curated and published by Self-Investment Publishing.  Plaintiffs are commonly questioned why the case was decided against them. Seldom are they asked how they managed to rebound in spite of all that occurred. This book is not a tabloid tell-all or an attack on specific attorneys or defendants. The stories will include real accounts of what happened after the gavel fell.

The release of “After the Gavel Falls. Plaintiff stories of surviving the loss of a legal case is scheduled for release in the summer of 2015. This will be a collection of specific inspiring stories, lessons learned and step-by-step processes on how to bounce back after losing a civil case from people who have been there. Every chapter will include smart, powerful strategies on how each person faced the loss and the actions taken to create their future.

One lead story is written by Sumner Davenport, a witness in support of the plaintiffs’ claims in a large housing rights case, after which she gave the same testimony as the plaintiff in her own case. The first case was allegedly helped by her testimony to gain a substantial confidential settlement, however, in her case that followed, she refused a confidential settlement and went to trial. The case continued almost a year where the defendant eventually prevailed, after which Davenport was broken and broke. Nine years later, after rebuilding her life and her professional career, she found herself unwillingly thrust in the media spotlight when her testimony, which was not protected by confidentiality, was discovered and broadcast for weeks to support racially heated breaking news about her previous defendant.  Her story will cover how she survived the initial loss and worked to overcome the backlash several years later.

Persons who would like to share their success story of how they have endured the loss of a civil case and have bounced back, can find more information in the anthology book section of the Self-Investment Publishing website. The publishers have a criteria for the stories that will be accepted and all submissions will be vetted prior to consideration for inclusion.
