Our Family Fun Night, a kid friendly entertainment blog, will live blog the 9th Annual AMG Services Catering Barbecue Cooking Contest in Dallas, TX this August. The event will pit more than 200 teams of grillers against one another to find the best barbecue recipes of the year. Teams will compete for the title and the ultimate bragging rights of winning the largest pork barbecue competition in a state known for barbecue.

“Not only does our event have a large regional appeal, but we have competitors and visitors from around the surrounding states who come to our great city to experience one of the main things we are known for: barbecues,” said Lori Howard, a representative for AMG Services Catering . “All eyes in the barbecue circuit will be on Dallas this week. After all, this is the granddaddy of grilling competitions.”

AMG Services Catering provides catering to private parties, company retreats, conventions, backstage/green room meals, and wedding receptions. Food is prepared in a customized fashion, tailored for each event’s specific needs, and then transported with a team of uniformly dressed servers.

“This is an event you do not want to miss,” said John Dunn, spokesman for the lifestyle website “The barbequed food alone is worth the trip, let alone the great activities and fun that come with this event.”

This year, the competition heats up with Panamanian flavor and celebrates the Republic of Panama featuring not one, but two Panamanian barbecue teams. Following with tradition, many teams will incorporate Panamanian flare into their team’s stall space. Winners of the best stall competition will be announced at the main stage, along with the winner of the ever-popular “Miss Oink Contest” – a parade of “hooved” contestants strutting their stilettos and snouts for heel-clicking fun.

Teams will compete in a number of categories including Whole Hog, Rib, Shoulder, Anything Butt, Hot Wings, and an Exotic category. Judging for the secondary contests will take place on Friday at 6:30pm. . The judging for the main categories will take place on Saturday and the weekend will wrap-up with a new champion being crowned at 7:30pm on Saturday on the main stage.
