(Newswire.net — July 10, 2014) Washington, DC — Park n’ Praise is an annual event organized by young adults from four Seventh-day Adventist churches (Seabrook SDA Church, Metropolitan SDA Church, The Takoma Park SDA Church and Restoration Praise Center) located in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. The event will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 2:30 PM.
The goal is to feed and clothe 500 homeless persons and minister to a thousand in McPherson Square Park in Washington, D.C. This will be done by corralling and marshaling the talents of young adult volunteers. The praise in the park will entail of serving 500 homeless individuals in the park and around D.C. with meals, bottled water and toiletries. In McPherson Square Park there will be free public health screenings, prayer warriers and the giving away of clothes. There will also be a gospel showcase with singing, poetry, steel pan, and more for everyone to enjoy.
“Success would be measured by the lives that are changed,” says Roland Blackman of Seabrook Seventh-day Adventist Church. “Hopefully, the volunteers realize that they don’t need to wait for a big event like Park n’ Praise in order to serve those in need, but that all it takes is vision and follow-through. This is our second time doing Park n’ Praise. Seeing the expressions of joy on the faces of the volunteers and homeless is indescribable. The volunteers are happy that they can do something positive in their community and the homeless are happy that someone cares about them.” Lastly, Roland hopes that attendees will be blessed by the experience and that the experience will prompt them to want a deeper relationship with God.
An event of this magnitude requires the support of volunteers. There are many ways in which one can contribute. One may contribute by donating toiletries or new or gently used clothes. One may contribute by purchasing a Park n’ Praise 2014 t-shirt or by donating funds. Last, but certainly not least, one may contribute by volunteering his or her time. More information can be found on the Park n’ Praise website.
