(Newswire.net — August 6, 2014) Thomson, Illinois — The Heirloom Market & Café will host a Hawaiian-themed luau fundraiser Friday, Aug. 8 from 5-8 p.m., featuring door prizes, food, games and train rides, as well as music from the group “Ukulele Connection”. Proceeds will benefit the Clinton County chapter of Habitat For Humanity.

The menu will include pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, tea and lemonade (other drinks will be available). For kids, there’ll be hot dogs and chips.

Families can enjoy face painting, bag tosses, limbo and hula hoop contests, along with the door prizes and train rides. (Train rides will be held from 5-7 p.m.)

“Ukulele Connection” features Aaron Johnson (U-Bass), Jim Roeder (Banjo Ukulele) and Paul Engwall (Tenor Ukulele), and plays throughout the Midwest. They are members of the Quad Cities Ukulele Club and call Northwest Illinois their home.

Always a favorite at the Heirloom Café, kulele Connection plays a unique blend of musical styles including popular, bluegrass and gospel songs. Bass, tenor, and banjo ukuleles along with a tuba, guitar, mandolin and harmonica provide the background for the three-part vocals.

Tickets are $28 in advance for families and $10 in advance for singles, with children 12 and under attending for free. Tickets at the door are $30 for families and $12 for singles. The price includes all meals and activities.

Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.
