(Newswire.net — August 8, 2014) Fairfax, VA — Botox has been used as treatment for some time now to help aid in Migraines. A recent study done however has shown that patients who were injected with onabotulinumtoxin A (Botox) have demonstrated vast improvements in the symptoms of their depression.
The test was the largest study so far on the effects of Onabotulinumtoxin A also known as Botox. The study was done on depression, and researches determined through the trials that over 50% of the patients who were suffering from depression showed a great deal of improvement with their symptoms related to depression using MADRS (Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale), and researchers where amazed at the results.
The study was performed by Dr. Rosenthal, MD and Dr. Finzi MD, Phd. This study was published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research. The study included 74 subjects suffering from a depression who were each injected with a single treatment of either onabotulinumtoxinA or a placebo test to the procerus and corrugator muscles right between the eyebrows. The symptoms that were caused by depression were shown to decrease in the patients by 47% after only six weeks of study. The placebo group on the other hand only showed an improvement of 21%, this is the first time that a clinical trial has shown the significant difference in the remission of depression with OBA in patients.
The trials co-author Dr.Norman E. Rosenthal, MD who is the Clinical Professor at Georgetown Medical School, stated, that the research is relly groundbreaking and offers patients suffering from some degree of depression and the doctors treating them a brand new approach at treating depression, specifically one that will not interfere with other treatments. The study proved that Botox in northern virginia is a viable way to treat the symptoms of depression by itself or in conjunction with other methods. The study also backs the claims made by Charles Darwin and William James which states that the expressions we hold on our face affect our moods.
As for Migraines the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Botox for the treatment of Migraines. This is by no means groundbreaking news, but people should be reminded of the power of this wonder drug. Chronic Migraine is one of the most debilitating forms of headaches and can last for days, weeks, and even months. They affect the entire quality of an individual’s life, including social, family and work. Botox is known to be one of the more successful treatments in Migraine suppression and prevention, and helps to relieve the nausea and sensitivity to light and sounds as well.
The botox injections are given every twelve weeks with multiple injections in various areas of the head. They are more common in women than in men, Botox is effective in Migraines which last for less than 14 days a week and patients should speak with their doctor to determine if the treatment is right for them. The most common of side effects reported by the patients of Botox injections for Migraines were neck pain. Studies on Botox are bring new applications of use by this drug on a regular basis and will surely give way to powerful new treatments in some otherwise untreatable illnesses and conditions.
