(Newswire.net — August 8, 2014) Phoenix, AZ — Dr. Merger of Phoenix is performing breast augmentation procedures which are leading to an enhanced personal well-being. It’s shown that women who undergo breast surgery gain more than just physical enhancement; many women declare that they are also gaining improvement in the quality of several areas of life, including sexual function.
Where breast augmentation surgery was once thought to be purely cosmetic, we are now seeing that they also have a significant and powerful effect on a woman’s satisfaction with her breast and the psychological relationship with sex. This is in direct accordance to a report written by ASPS Member Surgeon Colleen M. McCarthy, MD of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New Hampshire.
Research was done through the use of a simple questionnaire that was done after breast augmentation surgeries. The researchers who developed the questionnaire designed it help evaluate the changes women went through in all areas of life once they had undergone augmentation surgery. It was found that a majority of women reported an overall enhanced quality of life, this was regarded one of the most important aspects of the effects of the surgery which women should be informed of.
The questionnaire was aptly named the Breast-Q and was used to gain insight and evaluations in six major areas. The six areas where: satisfaction with the breasts, surgery and overall outcome, psychological effects, sexual function, physical well-being, and satisfaction with the medical care. The questionnaire was completed by 41 women six months prior and post breast augmentation surgery in which implants where inserted.
There were positive results in the entire group in three out of six areas. On a scale of zero to one hundred the average scores jumped from twenty seven to seventy for satisfaction with the breasts, from forty five to seventy eight for the psychosocial well-being, and sexual well-being climbed from thirty five to seventy two. More than eighty percent of the women that participated in the questionnaire claimed “significant improvement” in their happiness with each of these areas. The improvement in the quality of life after the breast augmentation surgery where greatly significant, they were said to be comparable to those of hip-replacement surgery patients after a full recovery.
Being that breast augmentation surgery is the most common of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed in the states, this is good news for women considering partaking in the process. The ASPS declares through its statistics that more than 300,000 women go through breast augmentation surgery a year. It is also noted that a woman can suffer from a low self-esteem depending on the size and shape of her breast if she is any way dissatisfied. This dissatisfaction can lower confidence, the feeling of attractiveness, and the importance of sexuality.
In the previous years the FDA has encouraged women to document the procedure of breast augmentation surgery. This includes before the surgery, during and after, and how the breast implants changed the way the woman’s quality of life and personal well-being changed. Doctors have noted that there is now more evidence than ever as to the positive outcomes in life related to breast augmentation, especially in the form of mental and physical health as well as the overall satisfaction of life with the patient.
Studies have shown that implant type augmentation surgeries have greatly improved a woman’s quality of life in several key areas and how the Breast-Q questionnaire helped to prove this positive impact from breast augmentation surgery when viewed from the patients perspective.
Researchers all over believe these findings to be directly related to plastic surgeons who working with individual patients on a personal basis. The Breast-Q provided the tangible evidence needed to prove patient satisfaction, improve communication, and to help further establish the results which are typically expected from breast augmentation surgery. The studies have been used to create benchmark practices for patient satisfaction and psychological effects related to quality of life.
