(Newswire.netAugust 18, 2014)  — ISIS stands for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and their goal is a Sunni Islamic State under the rule of Sharia law. They are trying to accomplish this goal by committing acts of terror and violence. ISIS has vowed to either drive out or annihilate anybody who refuses to convert their religions. Many reports are indicating that ISIS militants have slaughtered, buried alive, executed, and severed the heads of men, women, and children in the villages they have conquered. Christians are given three choices either flee the city, stay and pay a ten thousand dollar “tax”, or be killed. The barbaric tactics used by the ISIS group have forced Christians to flee many cities and seek refugee and safe havens. People can help the Christians suffering in these areas by donating to organizations that are serving those refugees.

ISIS’ power is only increasing and in June, of 2014, their forces took Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city and the biggest one along the Iraq-Syria border. At the beginning of 2014 it was reported that thirty five thousand Christians were living in Mosul before the attacks from ISIS. In July it is believed that the Christian population now stands at zero, completely eliminated. When ISIS took control of Mosul, they seized more than four hundred million dollars from city banks, providing them with financial power to access militant supplies and continue their genocide in other cities. ISIS forces are now advancing into Kurdish territory in northern Iraq and despite U.S. involvement, with limited airstrikes against their convoys, refugees are struggling to survive.

Hundred of thousands of Christian refugees are fleeing into the surrounding cities and have caused an inflow of people that the shelters and ministries are not equipped to handle. For example, the Kurdish capital of Erbil is struggling to provide even the basic necessities to their refugees. Water, food, and shelter are sparse and without aid many of these Christians will be forced to relocate again. One ministry is housing and serving over a thousand Christian refugees alone and supplies are dwindling quickly. People themselves can’t stop the militant ISIS group there are ways to help.

One way to help is by donating to the ministries and organizations that are housing the refugees. Heaven’s Family has created the Christian Refugee Fund and will use all gifts, donated through August 31st, specifically for Iraqi refugee relief.
