Singapore American School Hosting 3rd Annual GOOGLE Education Summit

(Newswire.net — August 20, 2014) Singapore, Singapore — Next week on September 6th and 7th, Singapore American School will host the 3rd annual Singapore Summit featuring Google Apps for Education, bringing together world-class educational technology leaders. All presenters are Google Certified Teachers, Google Apps for Education Certified Trainers, Google employees, or teachers with local success stories.

The Summit features two keynote presentations, a demo slam competition, a closing capstone session and two full days of informative breakouts, cutting edge demonstrations and hands-on workshops led by experienced and knowledgeable professional developers. Keynote Speaker Dean Shareski is the Community Manager for Discovery Education Canada. He taught grades 1-8 for 14 years and spent 9 as a digital learning consultant for Prairie South School Division in Moose Jaw, SK. In addition he teaches pre-service teachers at the University of Regina. His blog consistently ranks among the top educational blogs.

In 2010 he won the ISTE Award for Outstanding Leader of the Year. Dean has had the opportunity to speak to a variety of education audiences both nationally and internationally. His passion remains helping teachers explore the affordances of technology for learning. Dean believes humor and humility go a long way in supporting and advocating transformational practices in teaching and learning.

SAS High School Educational Technology Coordinator Jay Atwood will be a spotlight speaker. He shared, “It is an honor to be recognized for our innovative work utilizing and incorporating technology into our everyday learning curriculum that our students and teachers can actually use. I’m grateful to be representing all the Google certified teachers at SAS.”

Atwood is a Google Certified Teacher, Google Education Trainer and has been a Lead Learner at Google Teacher Academies in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the US. He is responsible for leading education technology planning, professional learning, and technology integration for Singapore American School high school students with the goal of improved student learning. Atwood is well versed in marrying a passion for training teachers in the effective use of technology together with contemporary pedagogy. For the past 20 years he has worked at international schools in Egypt, Taiwan and Singapore and has served as an educational consultant for schools in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.

The other invited Keynote Speaker, Jennie Magiera, is the Digital Learning Coordinator for the Academy for Urban School Leadership, a network of 29 Chicago Public Schools, and previously taught math to 4th and 5th graders.

As an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher and Chicago Public School’s 2012 Tech Innovator of the Year, Jennie has been working to redefine education through effective technology use. She explores how to leverage 1:1 devices such as Chromebooks and iPads to increase student metacognition, self-efficacy and creativity.
