The technology of Google Glass is not fashion-centric, but designer Scott Tucker is set to change that, with a merger of fashion and technology.
Tucker, a New York based designer, is among the first to attempt to improve the look of Google Glass. Two years after he made waves by having his models wear Google Glass on the ramp, he has launched designer frames to hold these smart glasses.
“This computerized eyewear had looked too dorky for people who are not geeks to buy into,” said Tucker. “You had to fortify yourself against a lot of blowback if you chose to wear it in public – the only place you felt safe wearing this was the Google I/O. With my designer frames, these look more like a fashion statement and closer to glasses that you can wear anywhere.”
The frames will be available at all leading fashion retailers as a $2,000 package. The package includes a pair of Glass (in black, green, plum, brown or white), a frame, a mono ear bud, and a case. The frames are available two formats – Bold and Thin. The frames also support prescription lenses.
“Many potential Google Glass buyers have complained that the glasses makes them look like robots. Most have had no intention of buying these till an upscale fashion house gives them a makeover,” said Tucker. “With my new Made for Glass line, I’m sure Google Glass will reach a ton of new customers.”
Google Glass allows users to perform online searches, use maps, take photos and record videos through a completely hands free control. One could also make calls using the Glass, without having to take their iPhone out . A growing number of apps are adding on to the functionalities available.
