Scott Tucker, small business owner and community activist, recently orchestrated a fundraiser in his home town. Each year, Tucker and his employees at Voodoo Design Group donate and gather voluntary contributions from their community. This year, it was decided that proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Black Hawk County Zoo.

“My earliest childhood memories took place at the zoo,” Scott Tucker said. “I vividly remember the first time that I went with my parents and just how magical that experience was; The Black Hawk Zoo holds a special place in my heart.”

Joyce Bainbridge is the head of the department of development at the zoo, and has created a schematic that will be carried out this winter. Her staff and zoo officials are working together and have designed a new center for education, which will be situated on the zoo’s north end.

“Our team is putting the final touches on blueprints that will send a construction team to the Black Hawk County Zoo this winter, and will begin building a beautiful children’s education center,” said Joyce Bainbridge. “Scott Tucker and his staff at Voodoo Design Group have been extremely generous; our staff and the community here are very grateful for his kindness.”

The new addition will provide a learning environment for children to talk with zookeepers, live plays that demonstrate the importance of animal conservation, and interaction with zoo animals guided by biologists. The news has recently created a spark in several youth organizations, and is expected to be a major highlight of the Black Hawk Zoo experience.

“I’m very pleased to hear that the zoo has decided to build a children’s education center. I can’t wait to see it first hand,” Scott Tucker said. “The fundraiser seems to get more and more support every year. We’re extremely thrilled to be able to give back to this community.”
