(Newswire.net — September 17, 2014)   — Philadelphia PA — Pocos.com, a local restaurant in Doylestown PA is fundraising for Sue Berry, the brain injured grandmother of Holly Berry Huynh the nine year old 4th grade student that was killed by a drunk driver 11/21/12. The family is in desperate need to replace their current wheel chair accessible van that has 170,000 miles on the odometer.

It all started on on Thanksgiving Eve 2012 when a drunk driver traveling between 142 mph and 155 mph in his souped-up Mustang in a 55 mph area, slammed into Sue’s Honda CR-V from behind while she was returning home after picking up her granddaughter Holly from her gymnastics class.

Holly, who loved art, died within minutes, her grandmother Sue was transported to the trauma center at Temple hospital in critical condition. It’s been an uphill battle ever since.

Drew Bodden, the driver of the car that hit Sue’s vehicle, was found guilty of third-degree murder in connection with the crash.

Holly’s mother Colleen set up The Holly Berry Huynh Foundation  http://hollyberryhuynhfoundation.com/  to give children with financial needs an opportunity to experience the world of art outside of the classroom. They help kids improve creativity, concentration, self-expression, and risk taking skills through art camps, art programs, and museum tours.

In 2013 her parents were visiting. Her mother, Suzanne, is in a power chair in the next room watching TV with a grandchild. Suzanne is barely able to speak due to her injuries.

Colleen said that Thanksgiving Eve is a blur. She recalled her mother being sedated at Temple University Hospital, and the doctors saying she probably would die.

There was disbelief and crying. She was stunned and helpless. A neighbor came and drove her to the county morgue, because that is where they had taken Holly.

“That night, they wouldn’t let me touch her. I had to look at her from behind a glass window, at a distance,” she said. “I had to wait several days before I could hold her and kiss her.”

At Temple hospital, her mother was near death. Ross cried and cried. A doctor who heard what had happened cried with them.

In September 2014 the Foundation continues to help kids in need. However, Sue continues to be wheel chair bound due to traumatic brain injuries from the accident. The family is driving a old wheel chair accessible van with 170,000 mile on it that’s in constant need of repairs.
