Juanita Purcell Inducted to TIA Hall of Fame

The astonishing growth and success of Purcell Tire & Rubber Company is just one of the reasons that the Tire Industry Association named Juanita Purcell as a 2014 inductee into its Hall of Fame. As executive vice president of the company, Juanita Purcell helped it to grow from a single retread plant and three stores in Missouri in 1970 to six retread plants, more than 60 retail and commercial locations, and three corporate offices. 

Juanita Purcell and her husband Bob took over the reins at Purcell Tire & Rubber Company after the death of the company’s founder, Robert Purcell Sr. in 1970. The transition was a smooth one owing to the fact that Bob and Juanita already had experience in the tire service industry from having worked at Purcell Tire since 1964. Today, Purcell is the largest off-road vehicle tire-retreading company and is among the largest independent tire chains in the country. 

“Induction into the TIA Hall of Fame where she will join other great names in the tire industry is a fitting tribute to the woman responsible for the operation of our company for more than four decades,” according to a spokesman for Purcell Tire & Rubber Company. “Juanita Purcell has been a pioneer in the tire and auto service industry, so she richly deserves this honor.” 

While her husband, Bob, traveled the country to oversee the company’s growing retail and mine locations, as well as the expansion of its retread plants, Juanita Purcell focused on directing the operations of Purcell Tire from its corporate headquarters. Juanita Purcell continues overseeing company operations which has made her a role model for other women in the tire industry. She has taken an active role in mentoring other women by devoting considerable time and energies to teach them what she has learned about this unique business.
