(Newswire.net — October 15, 2014) Washington, D.C. — DrugNews.net, an impartial drug resource center that gives up-to-date information on various types of drugs and their side effects, has released information revealing an upward trend in the number of unwanted results obtained from prescriptions that are or were FDA approved.

As doctors follow FDA-approved guidelines and prescribe more FDA-approved medications than ever before, more people are reporting record-high numbers of side effects and are going to court over it. Unintended conditions presented in lawsuits include kidney failure, internal bleeding, blood clots, cancers, permanent sexual dysfunction and dozens of others. For example, Bayer, the pharma company behind Yaz and Yasmin, have paid close to $1.75 billion to settle injury claims posted by more than 12,000 women who are former users of those prescription medications, citing blood clots, premature separation of organs and other conditions as a result of Yaz and Yasmin use.

In addition, DrugNews.net has posted that there are more cases of men suffering permanent dysfunction issues as a result of treatment for low testosterone. The site says that sexual dysfunction occurs because prescription medicines for low testosterone work by supplying testosterone for the body, eventually convincing the body’s system that it doesn’t need to produce its own – and natural production can stop permanently because of it. Studies have also shown certain men taking testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) drugs may have a substantially higher risk of heart attack, stroke or even death. In fact, as DrugNews.net reports, hundreds of men have already filed lawsuits against the makers of these TRT drugs because they have suffered strokes and heart attacks during or after treatment.

Another prescription drug with information posted on DrugNews.net regarding dangerous side effects is Mirena. The hormone levonorgestrel in Mirena has been associated with a neurological condition called pseudotumor cerebri that causes increased fluid levels in the skull. Some other symptoms of this birth control pill include ongoing migraine headaches, blind spots, temporary blindness, ringing in the ears, and blurred or double vision. Over 600 women have filed suit alleging they suffered reproductive organ tearing with use of Mirena, although the mass tort case is still in the investigatory phase awaiting trial.

With different information coming from the FDA, researchers, drug company advocates, legal professionals and news organizations, those affected by serious side effects from prescription drugs or medical devices often find it hard to know where to start. The website www.drugnews.net is designed as a starting point for such consumers and their families.
