(Newswire.net — October 16, 2014) Queen Creek, AZ — Local Queen Creek cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kelly B. Wettstein is helping families who don’t want their children to consume the excess candy that they bring home after trick-or-treating this Halloween. Affinity Dental will open their doors to the public for their annual Halloween Cash for Candy event. The official candy exchange day is Saturday, November 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Affinity Dental office located at 21321 East Ocotillo Road.
The average American consumes about 24lbs of candy per year and for children, the largest amount consumed is on or following Halloween. Global sugar consumption by kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure children’s teeth are being cared for more than ever. Some children may not be in favor of parting with their treats so most parents look for creative ways to entice them to do so. Parents are able to ditch the candy by looking for a dentist who offers a Halloween candy buy back event.
Families will be excited when they can bring their excess unopened Halloween candy and make $1 per pound of donated candy and receive a glowing electric toothbrush for participating. The staff at Affinity Dental hopes that by doing away with this holiday’s excess sweets along with providing a fun toothbrush will promote a healthy boost to dental care habits in children and minimize the occasional broken teeth or damaged braces.
Affinity Dental will be donating all the candy they collect to the U.S. Troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan so they will receive sweet treats over the holiday season. Partnering with Operation Gratitude, the clinic ensures that the unopened candy makes its long voyage halfway across the world and into the hands of those who must spend the holidays away from family members and friends.
The staff at Affinity Dental enjoys participating in this rewarding event. “We have been holding this event for five years and have collected over 1,400 pounds of candy last year alone. That made a lot of Christmas baskets for our troops”, says Dr. Wettstein.
