(Newswire.net — October 31, 2014)  — Canadensis, Pa. — Eric Frein, 31, was captured by US Marshals and Pennsylvania state troopers near an abandoned airplane hangar at Birchwood Pocono Airpark in Pocono Township, Monroe County a little after 6 p.m. Thursday.

After US Marshals ordered him to surrender, Frein threw away his sniper rifle and gun, get down on his knees and raised hands. At that moment, police apprehended Frein, said State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said.

The manhunt lasted nearly seven weeks. Considered armed an dangerous, FBI offered an award of up to $100,000 for information leading to his whereabouts, however, it is not known if someone has claimed that sum.

“He has very strong feelings about law enforcement and seems to be very angry with a lot of things that go on in our society,” Noonan previously said of the suspect. “The thing that I want to emphasize, is that the reason this took so long is that it is such a big wooded area that he was totally familiar with, that he had a lot of places to hide in, and we had to be very careful with how we searched it,” Noonan said.

Noonan added that, according to FBI report, Frein has been involved in a Cold War re-enactment group and has claimed to have fought alongside Serbians in Africa. Though there wasn’t any Serbian troops in Africa, apart within UN forces, on a photo FBI dispatched Frein is in a Serbian military uniform that was officially in use in the Serbian military until 2006.

Frein was turned over to State Police, who used the handcuffs and the patrol car of Corporal Dickson in his arrest.

The civilians near his capturing location said to reporters that they were afraid for their lives; however, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett says Frein’s grudge was only with those who wear a badge.

“There were unarmed civilians right in the exact same location during the course of the shooting [at the Blooming Grove barracks], and he chose not to shoot at them,” Corbett said during a September 22nd news conference.

Frein is facing charges including first-degree murder, homicide of a law enforcement officer, and attempted murder, said The Pike County District Attorney concluding he intends to seek the death penalty in this case.
