Thomson Restaurant Hosting Haiti Orphanage Christmas Fundraiser

(Newswire.net — December 2, 2014) Thomson, Illinois — Two Thomson, Ill., businesses are holding a Christmas fundraiser dinner for a Haiti orphanage Dec. 9 in an event that will feature the executive director of the ministry as well as a show choir.

The Christmas fundraiser dinner at the Heirloom Market & Café will benefit the Heart of God Haiti orphanage, a non-denominational ministry that meets the emotional, physical, educational and spiritual needs for extremely impoverished or orphaned children in Haiti. 

The event will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner (6 p.m.), a presentation by Heart of God Executive Director David G. Young (6:30 p.m.), and local talent by the Fulton High School Show Choir (7 p.m.). Tickets are $30. It is sponsored by the Heirloom Market & Café and Solutions From Science.

David and his wife, Julie, have two sons, one of whom is from Haiti and joined the family after surviving the 2010 earthquake that devastated Port au Prince. David also is a self-employed CPA and a recently retired lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve who served in the reserves for more than 27 years. He is a decorated combat veteran with two deployments since 9/11 and has been awarded a Bronze Star Medal and a Combat Action Badge.

The appetizer menu will feature meatballs, cheese/crackers and a vegetable tray. The dinner menu will include blueberry/apple salad, turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, sautéed green beans, rolls and bread pudding.
